Let’s Break It Down!

So, you’re dreaming of a destination wedding at a gorgeous resort in the Carribean or Mexico, but you’re wondering… what exactly do you get with all-inclusive wedding packages? No worries—I’ve got you covered!

From free perks to must-know details, let’s dive into everything you need to know before you say yes to an all-inclusive wedding.

What Is an All-Inclusive Wedding Package?

The tricky part? Not all all-inclusive wedding packages are created equal. Some resorts offer “free” wedding packages (but heads up—these usually cover just the ceremony, maybe a basic reception). Others bundle everything together based on guest count.

My go-to resorts? Hard Rock, Unico and AVA —they seriously hook my couples up with the best perks, especially for big weddings. In general, the more guests you have, the more perks you get. Win-win!

It is also important to note that pricing and packages are constantly changing. However fear not – as your dedicated wedding travel expert it is my job to stay on top of changes and keep you well informed.

Ceremony & Reception Locations: What Are Your Options?

This totally depends on the resort, but here’s the deal:

  • Most resorts have a beach option (though believe it or not, beach weddings are becoming less popular).
  • Ballrooms are common, although sometimes these are reserved as backup spaces in case of rain. (more on that later)
  • Some resorts have garden venues (hello, dreamy greenery!).
  • Want a rooftop with jaw-dropping views? You might have to pay extra.
  • Unique spots—like over-the-water gazebos or poolside setups—are available at select resorts!

If you’re eyeing something super special, be sure to check if it comes with an extra fee.

Food & Drinks: Are They Really Included?

For the most part—YES! This is exactly why I always recommend going all-inclusive. Resorts like Hard Rock bundle food and drinks into their wedding packages, so you don’t get nickel-and-dimed for every little thing.

  • Your package will typically cover:
  • A set menu based on guest count
  • Basic decor (think white chairs, plates, and tables)
  • BUT if you want luxe upgrades, like fancy chairs or custom tablescapes, expect to pay extra.

Do You Get a Wedding Planner?

Yep! Every resort has an on-site wedding team. Once you book, I’ll connect you with the coordinator, and about 2-3 months before your big day, you’ll start planning details with them.

I also offer a package where I attend your online planning meeting and advocate for you (because trust me, resort planners juggle a lot of weddings). However, if you want full-scale design help—choosing florals, colors, and linens—you may want to bring in an outside planner (just know this will be an extra cost). To be honest most of my couples don’t need this and are happy with the onsite planners.

Special Perks for the Couple? Yes, Please!

One of the best parts about an all-inclusive wedding is all the extra goodies! Resorts often throw in fun perks like:

  • Spa treatments
  • Breakfast in bed
  • A romantic candlelit dinner
  • Activies such as a catamaran cruise

Some resorts even give couples cash back or extra credits based on how many guests they bring. That’s right—your wedding could earn you a little something extra!

Can You Customize the Wedding Package?

Absolutely! Most all-inclusive wedding packages start with a base setup, and from there, you can tweak things to fit your vision.

For example one of my brides wanted to bring her own photographer but had a small photo package included in her resort deal—so she used the resort photographer for family portraits and hired her own for the big moments. Genius!

Bottom line? You can use the standard package or swap out elements to make it yours.

How Far in Advance Should You Book?

Ideally, you will want to book 14-18 months ahead. You can read more about the reasons why in this blog post

Booking this far out gives you enough time to:

  • Lock in your dream resort & date
  • Send invites to guests at least 12 months out (so they have time to plan & budget)

Short on time? You can pull off a wedding in 6 months or less—but this is best achievable with a smaller guest list and lots of flexibility.

What Happens If It Rains?

Ahh, the dreaded what-if question! Here’s the deal: every resort has a rain backup plan.

If you book a beach wedding, the ballroom will likely be on hold as Plan B. Other backup options could include a covered terrace or a walkway with clear plexiglass so you still get natural light.

Most resorts make the final “rain or shine” call a few hours before your ceremony. If you refuse to move indoors and then it does rain, you might have to pay last-minute penalties to relocate everything. My advice? Trust the resort’s guidance—they know what they’re doing!
